Philadelphia man sues Trans Union over debt he says he doesn't owe

Philadelphiafed

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man filed suit Wednesday against a credit information company, alleging the company attempted to collect on a debt he didn't owe.

Larry Brooks filed the lawsuit against Trans Union, LLC alleging the company made “derogatory and inaccurate statements” to Allied Adjustors and United Revenue Collection Service, which are debt-collecting agencies.

The lawsuit claims Trans Union sent information to Allied Adjustors and United Revenue to collect on debt that Brooks was never responsible for. United Revenue and Allied Adjustors have been reporting the non-payment of the debt to Brooks' credit history and credit reporting agencies.

“The inaccurate information negatively reflects upon the Plaintiff, (his) credit repayment history... financial responsibility as a debtor and Plaintiff’s credit worthiness,” the lawsuit said.

Brooks is seeking an unspecified amount of damages plus court costs. He is represented by Mark Mailman, John Soumilas and Geoffrey H. Baskerville of Francis & Mailman, P.C. of Philadelphia.

United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Case No. 2:15-cv-00529.
