Employee seeks unpaid wages, overtime from Chestnut Hill health facility

A Philadelphia woman is suing a Chestnut Hill healthcare facility and its operating company for allegedly violating numerous employment laws.

Veronica Weekes, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a lawsuit July 30 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against CHHS Hospital Company, doing business as Chestnut Hill Hospital, alleging violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act and the Pennsylvania Wage Payment and Collection Law.

According to the complaint, Weekes, who held the position of an admitting specialist, says the defendant failed to pay her and other employees overtime compensation when they worked more than 40 hours in a given week. The suit also states the defendant failed to accurately track and report hours worked by Weekes and similarly situated employees, in addition to failing to compensate them for work they performed during unpaid meal breaks.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant's actions were done willfully and in reckless disregard of employee rights.

 Weekes seeks unpaid overtime compensation, withheld wages, liquidated damages, attorney fees and court costs, and other relief deemed appropriate by the court. She is represented by attorneys Michael Murphy and Michael C. Groh of the Murphy Law Group in Philadelphia.
