PHILADELPHIA -- A former part-time resident manager of a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania business recently sued the company, alleging religious discrimination based on his Islamic faith.

Marvin Starks sued Self Help Movement, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District Court of Pennsylvania on Oct. 19, alleging the company violated the Civil Rights Act and the Pennsylvania Human Rights Act by unlawfully discriminating against him due to his religious beliefs.

Starks alleges that John Cooper, his supervisor at Self Help Movement, denied him pay raises and promotions due to his religion, and otherwise created a hostile work environment.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $75,000, plus attorney fees and costs. He is represented by Michael J. Davey of Media, Pennsylvania.
