PHILADLEPHIA – A Chalfont woman is suing her former employer over unfair discrimination and termination allegations.
Staci Beck filed a complaint on Oct. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against her employer, Children of America Inc., citing violations of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
According to the complaint, during her employment under the defendant from January 2011 until September 2012, Beck held the position of a co-teacher. After being hired, Beck was diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and at this time came to be protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the complaint states. After falling while walking to a classroom one day, Beck's employer spoke with her about the incident, allegedly forcing the plaintiff to admit that the incident was due to her disability. Beck was also given a new set of job requirements, including a number of new and physically demanding responsibilities, the complaint states. Beck claims that the defendant was in violation of the ADA by its treatment towards her and her eventual termination.
Beck is seeking compensation of lost benefits, all legal fees and damages suffered. She is being represented by Sidney L. Gold of Sidney L. Gold and Associates P.C. in Philadelphia.
