PHILADELPHIA – A woman is suing her employer alleging violation of pay standards and failure to compensate time worked.
Brenda Murray filed a class action complaint on Aug. 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Accor North America Inc.; South 17th Street Leaseco LLC, doing business as Sofitel Philadelphia; La Liberte LLC, Sofitel USA LLC, Accor Business and Leisure North America Inc. and Accor Lodging North America, citing violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act.
From 2003 until 2015, the plaintiff was employed by Accor at the Sofitel Philadephia hotel, working in the line of banquet organizations, the complaint states. As part of her job, Murray was at times expected to work overtime, and claims that, according to Pennsylvania laws, she should have been compensated for these hours. Accor would distribute additional pay to the employees for events worked, however this was not recorded, nor was it official overtime pay. Murray is suing the defendant claiming that it was illegal for the company to refuse overtime compensation for the hours worked.
Murray is seeking compensation for all lost wages and legal fees. Murray is represented by Marc A. Goldich of Sheller, PC in Philadelphia.
