SCRANTON – A Spanish and Jewish man is suing his past employer alleging that he was discriminated against because of his race and religion.
Raphael Morales of Fairbanks, Arkansas filed complaint Nov. 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Missouri Basin Well Service Inc., a North Dakota company doing business in New Milford, citing violations of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
According to the complaint, Morales was hired by Missouri Basin Wells in April 2012 as a health safety environmental supervisor and was an exemplary employee during his time there. In March 2013, Morales was supervised by a new individual who showed no respect for Morales' race or religion, which was exhibited in his allegedly offensive comments about Spanish culture and the Holocaust. Shortly after this, Morales was informed of his termination, although it was unmerited, the lawsuit states.
Morales is seeking compensation for damages suffered and lost wages. He is represented by Kimberly D. Borland of Borland and Borland LLC in Wilkes-Barre.
