Woman sues Wilkes University alleging she was terminated because of her age

Agediscrimination

SCRANTON – A woman is suing her employer alleging that she was discriminated against and unfairly terminated because of her age.

Cherylynn Gibson filed a complaint on Aug. 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Wilkes University of Wilkes-Barre, alleging discrimination due to her age and unlawful termination.

According to the complaint, Gibson was hired by Wilkes University in 1977 and was terminated due to an alleged downsizing in 1998. The following year, she was rehired and during the next 11 years, the plaintiff held the position of associate director of admissions. Due to no fault of her own, and allegedly solely because of her age, Gibson was discriminated against, not allowed to go on work-related trips and was accused of making mistakes which she claims not to have made. She is suing the defendant, alleging that it was discrimination due to her age that resulted in her treatment and eventual termination in December 2013.

Gibson is seeking compensation for all damages suffered, lost wages and legal fees. She is represented by Carl J. Greco of Greco Law Associates PC in Scranton.
