Consumer sues Brooks Brothers Inc., alleging website in violation of ADA

Brooks

PITTSBURGH – A disabled man is suing Brooks Brothers Inc., alleging that the company's site does not comply with disability standards.

Robert Jahoda filed a complaint on Aug. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Brooks Brothers, Inc. alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, Jahoda suffers from visual impairment and because of this he depends on websites which have been designed to be used by individuals with similar disabilities. Although the plaintiff uses screen-reading software to access websites, his computer was not able to receive the information from the Brooks Brothers website, causing him frustration and limiting his ability to use the site, the complaint states.

Jahoda is seeking compensation for damages suffered and legal fees. He is represented by R. Bruce Carlson, Benjamin J. Sweet and Stephanie K. Goldin of Carlson, Lynch, Sweet and Kilpella LLP in Pittsburgh.
