Homeowner sues Electrolux alleging that a defective dishwasher caught fire

Electrical fire

SCRANTON – A Cresco man is suing an appliance company, alleging that a defect in a washing machine caused a fire in his home.

Dennis Keesler filed a class-action lawsuit on Dec. 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Electrolux Home Products Inc., alleging breach of implied warranty, strict liability, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, Keesler bought a Frigidaire dishwasher, manufactured by Electrolux, in 2008 and used it without problems until 2013. One day, while using the dishwasher, Keesler became aware of smoke in his home, only to discover that it was coming from the appliance. Due to the alleged defect of the dishwasher, Keesler alleges his home suffered fire damages, his dishwasher was damaged and his kitchen suffered flooding. When the plaintiff contacted Electrolux about the defect he was allegedly not given any compensation. Keesler is suing Electrolux for failure to uphold the product's warranty and for failure to warn consumers of the problem.

Keesler is seeking compensation for damages to his property and appliance, as well as all legal expenses. He is represented by Shanon Carson of Berger and Montague PC in Philadelphia.
