SCRANTON – A disabled Harrisburg woman is suing her insurance provider alleging that they unfairly denied her benefits.

Kristen Ann Davies filed a complaint on Dec. 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against First Reliance Standard Life Insurance Co. of New York, claiming denial of benefits.

According to the complaint, Davies, a patient of numerous disabilities which came about due to an auto accident in 2009, signed an insurance policy with the defendant. Following the accident, Davies alleges that she attempted to return to work and did so for a time, however, as her condition worsened, her medical experts confirmed that she was not fit to work. The complaint states that the defendant terminated her policy in 2015, stating that the plaintiff was still able to work in a sedentary capacity. Davis is suing the company for its failure to uphold the agreed-upon terms of the policy.

Davis is seeking compensation for all damages and losses suffered. She is represented by Michael J. Burns of Bowen and Burns in Southhampton.
