PITTSBURGH – A Greensburg woman is suing her employer following her termination, alleging she felt forced to resign because of her disabilities.
Stacy Carter filed a complaint on Dec. 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Excela Health, alleging discrimination and unfair termination in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to the complaint, Carter was employed by the defendant during the months of October 2014 until March. The plaintiff's job was that of the supervisor for the volunteer office, and during her time there she claims to have done her utmost to perform well. Even though the defendant allegedly knew of her diagnosis of cystic fibrosis and pancreatic cancer, Carter was still offered the position. After she underwent a procedure, however, she was called into a meeting where she allegedly was treated in a hostile manner and was threatened, being told to resign or she would be laid off, the suit states. She claims she felt forced to resign and did so.
Carter is seeking compensation for all damages suffered. She is represented by Michael J. Bruzzese of Bruzzese and Temple in Pittsburgh.
