PHILADELPHIA – A New Jersey man is suing his former employer after he claims that he was discriminated against due to his race.
George Cannon filed a complaint on Dec. 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against United Healthcare Services Inc. alleging discrimination, unfair termination, and violation of Civil Rights Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
According to the complaint, Cannon, an African-American man, worked for the defendant from 2001 until 2014 and during his time with the company performed well and to the satisfaction of his job requirements.
The complaint states in 2013, Cannon's new supervisor repeatedly treated Cannon in a distinct and discriminatory way than the other employees, who were Caucasian, such as being required to complete extra work and file extra reports, which his white co-workers did not have to.
Cannon filed complaints about his treatment and following this, he was both overlooked for a raise and terminated from his position on March 18, 2014, he says.
Cannon is seeking compensation for all wrongs suffered and damages received, including legal fees. He is represented by Sidney L. Gold of the Law Office of Sidney L. Gold PC in Philadelphia.
