PHILADELPHIA – An online company is suing an unidentified defendant for copyright infringement, alleging that the individual took part in illegal Internet activity.

Malibu Media LLC filed a complaint on Dec. 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against a certain John Doe, alleging copyright infringement.

According to the complaint, Malibu Media is a company operating out of California that owns copyrights to numerous original works with complete rights over the distribution of such content.

The defendant, however, utilized BitTorrent, which allowed him to allegedly steal the content form the plaintiff's websites and distribute it across the Web, thus violating copyright infringement legislation.

The plaintiff is suing the defendant for its alleged violation of the law and its willful refusal to rectify the wrongs which were committed. The complaint states that geolocation technology traced the defendant's IP address to a location in the court's district.

Malibu Media is seeking compensation for damages received and legal fees. They are represented by Christopher P. Fiore of Fiore and Barber LLC in Harleysville.
