PHILADELPHIA – A man is seeking damages after an incident involving the allegedly fraudulent sale of works of art.

Nadhim Zahawi filed a complaint Jan. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against I. Brewster and Co. Inc. and Nathan Isen, alleging fraud, negligent misrepresentation, breach of contract and other counts.

According to the claim, the plaintiff, a resident of England, and defendant, a resident of Pennsylvania, began communication concerning the sale of fine works of art in June. The defendant, claiming to be a dealer of art, made multiple and various offers to the plaintiff for the sale of pieces by Andy Warhol, the suit states. In September, the plaintiff wired an amount of approximately $100,000 to the defendant for the pieces, but the suit states that the defendant denied receipt. The suit also states that despite later confirming the receipt of the payment, two pieces have yet to be delivered to the plaintiff.

Zahawi seeks damages of no less than $101,518.45 plus interest, attorney's fees and court costs. He also seeks delivery of the art pieces. He is represented by Joseph M. Armstrong of Offit Kurman PA in Philadelphia.
