PHILADELPHIA — A Georgia man is suing a Philadelphia trucking company, seeking damages following a work-related injury and termination.

William Soto, of Port Wentworth, Georgia, filed a complaint Jan. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Teals Express Inc., alleging violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, Soto had been employed by the defendant for three months and some of his work duties involved lifting and loading heavy objects. The suit says in December 2014, the plaintiff suffered two work-related injuries, which affected his neck, shoulder and back.

After the second injury, the lawsuit states, the plaintiff was apprised by Teals but it failed to offer help or accommodation. The day after the injury, the suit alleges Soto called out of work because of pain, and the following day he was terminated for his injury and requests to see a doctor.

Soto seeks damages for lost wages, benefits, and continued pain from his injuries, emotional distress, medical expenses and legal fees. He is represented by attorney Ari R. Karpf of Karpf, Karpf and Cerutti PC in Bensalem.
