Philadelphia couple blames Bloomingdale's for wife's injuries

Bloomingdale

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia couple is suing Bloomingdale's, alleging negligence for an injury the wife says she suffered.

Eleanor Houck and Clarence Houck of Philadelphia filed a lawsuit July 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Macy's Inc. and Macy's Retail Holdings Inc., both doing business as Bloomingdale's Inc., and John Does, Mary Doe, ABC Partnerships and XYZ Corporations, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 12, 2014, Eleanor Houck was at Bloomingdale's in Willow Grove where the defendants failed to recognize and remedy a dangerous situation, which consisted of a protruding display that lacked proper lighting.

Unable to see the object, the suit says, Houck fell to the ground, fracturing the humeral head of her right shoulder, neck and numerous other injuries. The plaintiff alleges she has also suffered financial distress due to the injury.

The Houcks seek more than $75,000 in compensation for all damages and loss of consortium. They are represented by attorney Alan F. Galerman of The Galerman Law Group in Philadelphia.
