PHILADELPHIA — A Meadowbrook man is suing a Philadelphia company, alleging he was terminated because of his age.
Emanuel Greenberg of Meadowbrook filed a complaint Feb. 2 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Burris Logistics and Burris Philadelphia, doing business as Honor Foods, alleging age discrimination.
According to the complaint, Greenberg had been employed since 1995 as a buyer and he added more vendors than any other buyer for the defendant. The suit states although the plaintiff was a strong employee, he was discriminated against, because of his age, beginning in 2010, by removing and redistributing some of his vendors to younger inexperienced buyers.
On May 10, 2013, the suit says, the plaintiff was terminated by Karen Kappra and Ann Polites, who alleged it was due to his productivity, although Greenberg, 78, says it was because of his age. The suit states other employees older than 60 were fired as well.
Greenberg seeks damages for violation of ADEA, PHRA, lost earnings, emotional upset, humiliation, court costs and attorney fees. He is represented by attorneys Stephen G. Console and Katherine C. Oeltjen of Console Law Offices LLC in Philadelphia.
