HARRISBURG — A Mechanicsburg woman is suing Macy's, alleging her termination was due to her race.
Maria Linda V. Gordon filed a complaint Aug. 13 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Macy's Inc and Mary's Retail Holdings Inc, alleging retaliation for her racial origin.
According to the complaint, on July 16, 2011, Gordon, a woman of color and a Filipino, suffered an injury while at work, which restricted her physically, and she was given crutches, a cane and wrist brace from doctors. She also suffers from Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which resulted in weakness, the suit states, and forced her to miss several days of work.
The lawsuit states in early 2013, the plaintiff began to experience retaliation, being denied requests, suspended and falsely accused of assaulting a customer. On March 18, 2013, Gordon was terminated in retaliation of her race, the suit states.
Gordon seeks reinstatement, compensation of more than $75,000, as well as punitive, statutory and compensatory damages, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Bradford Dorrance of Keefer Wood Allen & Rahal LLP in Harrisburg.
