PITTSBURGH — An African-American man is suing EDMC, a former employer, alleging a hostile work environment and racial discrimination.

Daniel Gary filed a complaint on April 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against EDMC, alleging that his former employer violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that beginning in July 2015, he was subjected to racial discrimination, which resulted in a hostile work environment, and further claims that he was unjustly terminated on September 2, 2015 because of his race. The plaintiff holds EDMC responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected him to disparate treatment compared to the way his Caucasian co-workers were treated, refused to respond to his communications and was uncooperative with him.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for loss of wages in excess of $22,000, loss of future wages in excess of $25,000, punitive damages in excess of $75,000, legal fees in excess of $25,000, pre-judgment and continuing interest, court costs and other such relief as the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Christi Wallace of Kraemer, Manes and Associates LLC in Pittsburgh.
