PHILADELPHIA — A former Salus University professor is suing Unum Life Insurance Company of America, a plan administrator, alleging that she was improperly denied disability benefits.

Susan Calantoni filed a complaint on May 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Unum Life Insurance Company of America, alleging that the plan administrator allegedly violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on or about October 27, 2015, her claim for long-term disability benefits was denied. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Company of America responsible because the defendant allegedly denied her claim for long-term disability benefits, stating that "You do not meet the definition of disability beyond February 3, 2015."

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for her past due disability benefits, plus interest, attorney's fees and costs and such other relief as may be just and proper. She is represented by Gregory G. Paul of Morgan & Paul PLLC in Swickley.
