PITTSBURGH — An agnostic is suing Truesense Marketing, also known as Mailing Services of Pittsburgh, a former employer, citing alleged religious discrimination.
Alyssa Gilberti filed a complaint on May 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against the defendant, alleging that the former employer violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Oct. 13, 2014, the defendant hired her as a donor relations specialist based on experience, a position that asked donors if they had any prayer requests. She was not happy with her job because she often felt uncomfortable having personal religious discussions with donors, she says. On April 3, 2015, the defendant allegedly received a complaint against her, and she was terminated on April 6, 2015, she claims. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide training or guidance and failed to disclose to her that she was expected to ask donors whether they had prayer requests, and terminated her for being uncomfortable with faith-based organizations/clients and donors.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for all available relief for intentional discrimination. She is represented by Erik M. Yurkovich of Erik M. Yurkovich, Attorney at Law in Wexford.
