Burn injuries blamed on web of negligence

PITTSBURGH — A couple are suing ADS Machinery Corp., Joe Lonigro in his individual capacity and as an employee of GE Industrial Systems Solutions Inc. d/b/a General Electric Co., and U.S. Security Associates Inc., citing alleged design defect, insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries, liability and negligence.

Thomas B. Baker and Kammi D. Baker filed a complaint on Aug. 29 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against the defendants, alleging that they failed to make sure that equipment was free of any defects that could potentially harm Thomas B. Baker.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Aug. 29, 2014, Thomas B. Baker sustain severe burns on his body when the scrubber pump of a galvanizing line automatically turned on, spraying him with hot caustic liquid. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible for various allegations of negligence, including an alleged failure to promptly take Thomas B. Baker to the nearest medical facility after the accident.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds the local arbitration limits of this court, punitive damages and court costs. They are represented by Kevin W. Tucker and Darren K. Parr of Darren K. Parr Law Firm, LLC in Pittsburgh.
