Trucker, employer accused of being at fault in fatal crash

Semi crash 04

PITTSBURGH — An administrator of a deceased man's estate is suing truck driver Richard A. Wiegard and his employer, Brown's Orchards & Farm Market, alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

Patricia L. Helman, administratrix of the estate of Glen R. Helman, filed a complaint on Aug. 30 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against the defendants, alleging that Wiegard lost control of the vehicle he was driving for his employer and caused a fatal collision with the vehicle driven by Glen R. Helman.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 21, 2015, Glen R. Helman sustained fatal injuries in a collision. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible, alleging that Wiegard was impaired by drugs, fatigued, distracted and had fallen asleep, leading to his purported failure to properly control his vehicle and/or timely apply his brakes.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds the arbitration limits of the court plus court costs. She is represented by Richard M. Rosenthal and Christine Zaremski-Young of Edgar Snyder & Associates, LLC in Pittsburgh.
