Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston accused of wrongly denying disability benefits

Insurance 03

HARRISBURG — A woman is suing an insurer over an allegedly improper decision not to pay her long-term disability benefits.

Patti L. Zelenack filed a complaint on Sept. 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston, alleging that the insurance firm wrongly denied her claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled and was initially being paid disability benefits until the benefits were terminated on June 30, 2015. The plaintiff holds Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston responsible because the defendant allegedly denied further payment of disability benefits to the plaintiff despite her being diagnosed as permanently disabled by her treating physicians.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks payment of disability benefits, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Bruce J. Phillips of Wetzel, Phillips, Rodgers & Falcone in Plains.
