UPMC Health Plan accused of wrongly denying benefits

Insurance 07

PITTSBURGH — A man is suing UPMC Health Plan, a disability insurance plan administrator, citing alleged breach of contract.

Michael Levy filed a complaint on Sept. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against UPMC Health Plan, alleging that it wrongly denied a disability claim for his dependent daughter.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2013 and 2014, he initiated a claim for benefits but was denied. The plaintiff holds UPMC Health Plan responsible because the defendant allegedly denied plaintiff's coverage claims despite being entitled to those benefits under the policy.

The plaintiff seeks benefits, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Jeff Ruder of Ruder Law in Pittsburgh.
