PHILADELPHIA — A consumer is suing a car dealer and a financing company, citing alleged breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation and violation of state and federal law.

OI J. Khao filed a complaint on Sept. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Ameri Motors Inc., Jawad Al Miri d/b/a Ameri Motors Inc., Gateway One Lending & Finance LLC and John Does, alleging that the plaintiff bought a vehicle in which the odometer had been subject to tampering.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2014, he suffered damages from being misled into buying a vehicle that did not have the proper reading on its odometer. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the miles shown on the odometer had allegedly been reduced in order to increase the vehicle's resale value.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants for treble, statutory, compensatory, actual and punitive damages plus interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Matthew B. Weisberg of Weisberg Law in Morton and Gary Schafkopf of Hopkins & Schafkopf, LLC in Bala Cynwyd.
