PHILADELPHIA — An insurance firm is suing Electrolux Home Products Inc., a Georgia business, citing alleged negligence and product liability.

Safeco Insurance Company of Illinois filed a complaint on Sept. 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Electrolux Home Products Inc. alleging that the Georgia business sold a defective dehumidifier.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 4, 2015, Safeco Insurance Company of Illinois suffered damages on behalf of John and Ann Dooley of Lansdale, whose Safeco-insured home was damaged in a fire started by a dehumidifier. The plaintiff holds Electrolux Home Products Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly inspect its product for any defects before selling it.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $75,000 plus interest and any further relief this court grants. It is represented by William N. Clark, Jr.
