Advanced Fabrication Services sued over fire

HARRISBURG — A Pennsylvania company and insurers are suing Advanced Fabrication Services Inc., t/d/b/a as AFS Energy Systems, citing alleged negligence and product liability.

RAD Manufacturing L.L.C., formerly known as RAD Wood Work Company; Indiana Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company, as subrogee and/or assignee of RAD Manufacturing L.L.C.; and The Travelers Indemnity Company, as subrogee and/or assignee of Indiana Lumbermens Mutual and RAD Manufacturing L.L.C., filed a complaint on Oct. 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Advanced Fabrication Services Inc., t/d/b/a as AFS Energy Systems, alleging that the defendant failed to properly design a biomass-fueled boiler and control system.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they suffered damages resulting from a fire. The plaintiffs hold the defendant responsible for allegedly failing to properly inspect the boiler system for any defects.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $2 million plus interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. They are represented by Steven L. Smith of Law Offices of Steven L. Smith, P.C. in Swarthmore.
