PITTSBURGH — A representative of a deceased woman's estate has filed a wrongful death claim alleging negligence in medical care.

Kristin Amos-Abanyie, personal representative of the estate of Mary B. Schmid, filed a complaint on Oct. 31 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Allegheny Health Network; Jefferson Hospital, a.k.a. Jefferson Regional Medical Center; Vikram M. Sathyendra, M.D.; Steel Valley Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine; Alan D. Bramowitz, M.D.; and Jefferson Cardiology Association, alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Schmid.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Schmid suffered from health conditions that contributed to and/or caused her death due to negligence in medical care. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for alleged shortcomings in care, including failure to properly treat Schmid during the first signs of cardiac arrest.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of this court plus interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Victor H. Pribanic and Christopher G. Buck of Pribanic & Pribanic, LLC in White Oak.
