Woman blames Western Pennsylvania Hospital in death of her adult son

PITTSBURGH — A representative of a deceased man's estate is suing West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc., d/b/a The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, and Brent T. Rau, M.D., alleging that the man's death was directly and proximately caused by negligent medical care.

Kathleen Street, as administratrix of the estate of her adult son, Paul J. Street filed a complaint on Oct. 31 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Paul J. Street.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in January, Paul J. Street died of coronary artery atherosclerosis and dilated cardiomyopathy. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to take the steps needed to correctly diagnose the condition of Paul J. Street.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds $35,000 plus interest and court costs. She is represented by Michael Santicola and Ryan R. Smith of Ryan R. Smith Law Offices in Pittsburgh.
