Widow of Shriners Hospitals employee claims breach of fiduciary duty

Insurance 10

PHILADELPHIA -- A Florida woman is suing The Group Life and Supplemental Life Plan for Employees of Shriners Hospitals for Children, Shriners Hospitals for Children Inc. and Hartford Life and Accident Insurance Company, alleging breach of fiduciary duty.

Maria Bonet filed a complaint on Dec. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants, alleging they wrongfully withheld benefits due to her.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she suffered damages from only being paid part of the full benefit of $500,000 under her husband's supplemental life insurance policy. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly breaching a contract by claiming there had been an error in insuring her deceased husband for the amount in question.

Bonet seeks judgment against the defendants plus court costs, interest and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Stephen C. Goldblum of Semanoff Ormsby Greenberg & Torchia LLC in Huntingdon Valley.
