PHILADELPHIA – A Schuylkill Haven woman alleges that a collection letter sent to her contained false and deceptive statements.

Melissa Seigfried filed a complaint on Jan. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Alltran Financial LP alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 18, 2017, she received a collection letter from the defendant. She alleges the letter failed to state how much of the alleged debt is interest or principal and used "false and threatening tax language" to confuse her and "overshadow" a settlement offer.

The plaintiff holds Alltran Financial LP responsible because she alleges the collection letter's contents violated the FDCPA.

The plaintiff seeks actual damages, statutory damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Antranig Garibian of Garibian Law Offices PC in Philadelphia.
