Woman alleges she was wrongfully terminated from position with Amerihealth Caritas

PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia woman alleges her age was a factor in her termination from her job at a health insurance company.

Vanessa Byrd filed a complaint on Feb. 13 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Amerihealth Caritas alleging wrongful termination.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began working for the defendant in 1997 and was a call connector for many years. She alleges at the time of her termination on May 22, 2017, she was 54 years old and was older than the other employees in her group. She alleges after her termination, her work was assigned to an employee decades younger than her.

The plaintiff seeks back pay, front pay, reinstatement if the court deems it appropriate, compensatory damages, lost benefits, court costs, double damages, pretrial damages, interest and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Howard K. Trubman in Philadelphia.
