ALLENTOWN – An insurance company alleges a North Carolina company manufactured defective dryers that caused fires its insureds' properties.

Allstate Insurance Co. filed a complaint on Feb. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Electrolux Home Products Inc. alleging strict liability and negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendant's ball-hitch clothes dryers are defective and that the appliances "cause lint to accumulate and ignite behind the drum during normal use." It alleges it has paid claims for several fires caused by the dryers.

The plaintiff holds Electrolux Home Products, Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to warn consumers regarding the defective nature of its dryers.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant plus interest, delay damages, punitive damages and any further relief the court grants. It is represented by Raymond E. Mack and Patrick A. Hughes of de Luca Levine LLC in Blue Bell.
