PITTSBURGH – Two Allegheny County residents are seeking damages from a city and its police department after they were struck by a stolen vehicle involved in a high-speed chase.
Robert Thomas and Christine Tennant filed a complaint on March 1 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against city of McKeesport Police Department and city of McKeesport alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on March 26, 2017, Thomas was operating a vehicle owned by Tennant traveling westbound on Lincoln Way in White Oak. The suit states Tennant was a passenger at the time.
The suit states a stolen Toyota, which was in pursuit by the McKeesport police, crashed head-on with the plaintiff's vehicle.
The plaintiffs holds the city of McKeesport Police Department and city of McKeesport responsible because the defendants allegedly initiated and continued pursuit of a stolen vehicle at excessive speeds in an area that had high traffic congestion and continued pursuit of the vehicle despite the fact the driver was weaving in and out of traffic and crossing into opposing lanes of travel.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of this court, interest and any further relief this court grants.
