PHILADELPHIA – A former employee of Lincoln University alleges she had to work additional hours to operate the bookstore and was not compensated.
Debra Mason filed a complaint on March 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Lincoln University alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by the defendant to assist in operating its bookstore. She alleges she worked 50 to 55 hours per workweek because the store was understaffed. The suit states she involuntarily resigned Sept. 29, 2017.
The plaintiff holds Lincoln University responsible because the defendant allegedly allowed the plaintiff to work for more than 40 hours per workweek and did not compensate her for the time.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant for compensatory damages, liquidated damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Anthony Giletto of Kraemer, Manes & Associates LLC in Philadelphia.
