Man alleges Metropolitan Life is unfairly withholding disability benefits

PHILADELPHIA – A Bensalem man alleges he is disabled and his claim for disability benefits was wrongfully denied.

Ramesh Chhabria filed a complaint on March 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Inc. and Delavau LLC citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in January 2014, he became disabled from his employment at Delavu and began medical treatment and diagnostics. The suit states he applied for disability benefits and his claim was denied by Metropolitan Life.

The plaintiff holds Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Inc. and Delavau LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly are unreasonably and unfairly withholding long-term benefits from him.

The plaintiff seeks declaration that he plaintiff is entitled to coverage under the health and disability plan, damages, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Marc A. Weinberg of Saffren & Weinberg in Jenkintown.
