PITTSBURGH — Two individuals are suing Western Pennsylvania Hospital, West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc., Allegheny Health Network, Pediatric and Neonatal Associates Inc., Allegheny Specialty Practice Network a/k/a Allegheny Clinic, UPMC, University of Pittsburgh Physicians, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, UPMC Health System, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Dr. Alan Lantzy, Dr. Sangeeta Bhatia, Dr. Giovanni Laneri, Dr. Barbara Clouser and Dr. Ruby Varughese for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent injuries.

Danielle Nelson, administrator of the estate of a deceased minor, and Dennis Nelson filed a complaint on March 20 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, alleging that the defendants failed to provide the unnamed minor with proper medical care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that the minor sustained serious physical injuries in Feb. 2016 when she allegedly developed an infection after being born. The plaintiffs claim that the defendants failed to give the minor the proper types and dosages of antibiotics. They hold the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to provide the unnamed minor with proper treatment.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds $50,000 plus interest and court costs. They are represented by Shanin Specter, Kila B. Baldwin and Thomas R. Bosworth of Kline & Specter P.C. in Philadelphia.
