HARRISBURG — An inmate is suing the Carbon County Correctional Facility; Timothy Fritz, the facility's warden; officers Albaro Castro, Steven Ringby and C.O. Tye; and 10 unidentified individuals for alleged cruel and unusual punishment.
Rodney Rider filed a complaint on April 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the defendants violated the Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was he was punched, kicked and stomped on by other inmates inside his cell. He claims that he suffered a lacerated liver and spleen, skull and facial fractures, internal bleeding, a fractured rib and other contusions and lacerations. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to protect him from a known danger from other inmates.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, attorney's fees, costs and any further relief that is proper and equitable. He is represented by Graham F. Baird of the Law Offices of Eric A. Shore PC in Philadelphia.
