PHILADELPHIA — An individual is suing her former employer, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, for alleged racial discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.

Scharletta McNeil filed a complaint on April 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the defendant violated the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was fired in retaliation for reporting racial discrimination and requesting medical leave for her mental health problems. As a result, the plaintiff claims that she has suffered financial damages, emotional distress and pain.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, reinstatement, legal fees, costs, expenses and any other relief. She is represented by Ari R. Karpf of Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti PC in Bensalem.
