PITTSBURGH — A husband and wife are suing The Port Authority of Allegheny County, a transportation agency, citing alleged negligent entrustment.

Nadine Hawkins and Horace W. Hawkins filed a complaint in the Allegheny County Courts of Common Pleas alleging that the transportation agency negligent entrusted its bus to a careless driver.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that, in May 2016, plaintiff Nadine Hawkins was a passenger with her grandson aboard defendant's 51 Carrick bus when the driver accelerated the bus and suddenly slammed on the brakes, causing her to fall backward and strike her tailbone violently.

She alleges a host of back injuries, some of which required surgery. The plaintiffs holds The Port Authority of Allegheny County responsible because the defendant's employee allegedly operated the bus without due regard for the position of its passengers and failed to keep the bus under proper and adequate control.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of the applicable arbitration limits, exclusive of interest and costs. They are represented by Wayne M. Chiurazzi of The Chiurazzi Law Group in Pittsburgh.
