PITTSBURGH — A crew member is suing vessel owner Campbell Transportation Co. for failing to provide a safe work environment.

Perry Overfield filed a complaint May 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

According to the complaint, Overfield was allegedly injured on July 14, 2016 when the cutting wheel of the grinder he was using broke and struck him in his left forearm. The plaintiff alleges that the accident caused severe lacerations that required extensive surgery, hospitalization and therapy and lost wages.

The plaintiff alleged that Campbell Transportation failed to provide a safe and non-defective equipment to perform his task, failed to provide adequate training and supervision, and failed to maintain its equipment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury; and seeks compensatory damages and costs of the suit. He is represented by David M. McQuiston of Thomson, Rhodes & Cowie PC in Pittsburgh.
