PITTSBURGH — A disabled man filed a class-action lawsuit against ALDI, Inc., citing alleged disability discrimination.
Lead plaintiff Richard Dieter filed a complaint June 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the defendant violated Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to the complaint, Dieter claims that he experienced unnecessary difficulties at the defendant’s facilities as a result of inaccessible parking lots and travel lanes. He said ALDI should be found responsible because it allegedly failed to remove architectural barriers and failed to maintain public accommodations that are accessible to and usable by disabled customers.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order certifying the class action, as well as an award of attorneys’ fees, costs and other appropriate relief. He is represented by Benjamin Sweet of Carlson Lynch Sweet Kilpela & Carpenter LLP in Pittsburgh.
