Former employee accuses Meadville Medical Center of discrimination

Wrongful term 11

ERIE — An ultrasound technologist is suing former employer Meadville Medical Center, citing alleged discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.

Lisa Hayes filed a complaint June 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Meadville Medical Center, alleging that the hospital violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to the complaint, Hayes was fired on July 26, 2017, resulting in a loss of income and employment benefits.

Hayes said the defendant allegedly subjected her to unjustified criticism and scrutiny because of her gender and sexual orientation and discriminated against her because she received infertility treatments.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment for punitive and exemplary damages. She is also seeking reinstatement, attorney’s fees and expenses. She is represented by Timothy McNair of McNair Law Offices PLLC in Erie.
