PITTSBURGH — A widower is suing Allegheny Health Network Allegheny General Hospital, Lana Y. Schumacher M.D., citing alleged professional negligence, after the death of his wife from pneumonia.

The estate of Linda Jean Elwood, with James Irvin Elwood as executor filed a complaint on July 11, in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, against the defendants alleging that they failed to provide appropriate medical care.

The plaintiff alleges that on June 25, 2016, Linda Jean Elwood was admitted to Allegheny General Hospital. As a result of defendants' alleged negligence, she sustained injuries which ultimately led to her death on July 19, 2016, according to the complaint.

The plaintiff holds Allegheny Health Network and Schumacher responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to recognize the signs and symptoms of pneumonia, failed to provide decedent with pneumococcal vaccine and negligently discontinued her lifesaving antibiotics.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages of more than $35,000. He is represented by Daniel Joseph of George & Joseph in New Kensington.
