Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that Kimya Johnson will join the firm’s Philadelphia office as Senior Counsel and Co-Chair of the firm’s national diversity and inclusion practice. In this role, Johnson will co-lead a practice group that helps clients strategize, communicate, build, and implement effective and legally compliant diversity, inclusion, and employee engagement programs and initiatives.
Johnson was previously the Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Cozen O’Connor, where she oversaw strategic planning for and execution of firm-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives across 26 offices in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. She also has extensive experience with employment counseling, management/workforce training, human resource policy and handbook creation, and litigation defense for employers. She has represented and advised clients in a full range of employment and labor-related legal matters, including affirmative action and Equal Employment Opportunity law, human resource and employment policies, discrimination claims (such as Title VII, Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act), compliance reporting, procedures and investigations, downsizing processes, wage and hour disputes, and union/management relations.
Johnson has been named to the Pennsylvania Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers Magazine, as well as a Lawyer on the Fast Track by American Lawyer Media. She was also awarded the MultiCultural Leadership Award by the National Diversity Council and named a Woman of Influence by the Philadelphia Chapter of the NAACP. Johnson currently serves as a board member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region, vice president and board member of Dare to Imagine Church, Inc., and a board member of the Dare to Imagine Community Development Corp. Johnson earned her J.D., cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She also earned an M.A. from Columbia University, Teachers College and a B.A., cum laude, from Spelman College. She is admitted to practice law in both Pennsylvania and New York.
