PITTSBURGH — A daughter is suing Grane Healthcare, Highland Park Care Center and other medical providers claiming negligence in the diagnosis and treatment of her mother's injuries.

Debra Kohlman filed a complaint on Aug. 27, in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, against the defendants alleging that they failed to manage, care, monitor, document, prevent, diagnose and/or treat the injuries of Fay A. Vincent.

The plaintiff is suing Grane Healthcare Co. and other Grane companies, Highland Park Care Center, Trebro Inc., Highland Park Properties, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside and UPMC Shadyside Hospital.

The plaintiff alleges that between Oct. 26, 2016, and April 6, 2017, her mother, Fay A. Vincent, was a patient/resident at several hospitals and nursing facilities on intermittent occasions and underwent several medical procedures.

She died on April 6, 2017, with a stage II left buttock wound and bilateral heel deep tissue injuries, according to court documents.

The plaintiff is alleging that the defendants are responsible in failing to properly diagnose and treat her mother's injuries, because the defendants allegedly accepted Fay Vincent as a patient, fully aware of her medical history and understood the level of care required.

They had an obligation to establish policies and procedures that addressed the needs of Fay Vincent and are responsible for supervising the standard professional practice by its agents/employees, the suit says.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an amount in excess of the compulsory arbitration limits and/or $50,000 whichever is greater, plus punitive damages, costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented by Ryan J. Duty of Wilkes & McHugh P.A. in Pittsburgh.
