PHILADELPHIA — A worker is suing International Paper Co., a packaging company, after allegedly slipping and falling on icy steps while delivering large rolls of paper.
Suliman Perkins filed a complaint in August in the Court of Common Pleas Philadelphia County against International Paper Co., alleging that the packaging company failed to use due care to maintain its premises in a safe condition.
The defendant recently removed the case to U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Jan. 11, 2017, he was at defendant's Corrugated Box Plant in Hazelton performing his work duties as an employee of CDL Logistics to deliver large rolls of paper.
He allegedly slipped, tumbled and/or fell due to the icy set of exterior steps at the defendant's premises. As a result, plaintiff suffered injury to the nerves, nervous system, neck, back and right hand, endured pain and suffering, loss of earnings, and incurred medical expenses.
The plaintiff holds International Paper responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to adequately maintain and inspect the premises, failed to warn persons of the defective condition on the premises, and allowed a dangerous condition like ice to remain on the exterior steps.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for damages in excess of $50,000. He is represented by Stuart A. Carpey of Carpey Law in Conshohocken.
