PHILADELPHIA — A fired manager is suing Pet Supplies Plus/USA Inc. and PSP Stores LLC, former employers, citing alleged disability discrimination, retaliation, and constructive eviction.

Maureen Hughes filed a complaint on Nov. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants, alleging they violated the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 23 she was forced to resign and that she believed she has been constructively discharged due to the hostile work environment she was subjected to. She has suffered loss of earnings and employee benefits, humiliation, inconvenience and loss of enjoyment of life, she says.

The plaintiff holds Pet Supplies Plus/USA Inc. and PSP Stores LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly discriminated against her based on her gender and pregnancy and retaliated against her by constructively terminating her for raising her concerns of gender discrimination.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and economic damages, plus interest, attorney's fees, costs and such other just, proper and equitable relief. She is represented by Stephen Goldblum of Semanoff Ormsby Greenberg & Torchia LLC in Huntingdon Valley.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Case No. is 2:18-cv-04869-GJP.
