SCRANTON — A former employee is suing Columbia Casket Corp, Haven Line Industries and Schuykill Haven Casket Co., citing a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

He is seeking more that $150,000, alleging his former employer refused to accommodate his disability.

James Lawrence filed a complaint on Nov. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, against the defendants alleging they wrongfully terminated him.

The plaintiff alleges, on May 8, he received a letter from the company president that it was restructuring and that his position was being eliminated.

However, he alleges his position was given to a 24-year-old driver whom Lawrence had trained for backup purposes.

Lawrence alleges he was fired due to his disability and that his employer allegedly refused to accommodate his disability.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks more than $150,000 in compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney fees and costs of suit, interest delay damages and other further relief.

He is represented by Graham F. Baird of Law Offices of Eric A. Shore P.C. in Philadelphia.
